KLEZMER LOS ANGELES

HOME OF

Richárd Bernard’s OY!Stars

It’s Eastern but Western...

It laughs while it weeps. It’s happy but minor key.

It’s KLEZMER, the lively Yiddish Jazz with its infectious upbeat rave tempos, achingly soulful ballads (and bowlful salads) and inherent humor.

You need it! You found it!!!

DO YOU LOVE MEANINGLESS CORPORATE JARGON IN YOUR WEBSITES? THIS PAGE WAS NOT WRITTEN BY AI, NOR BY A1 STEAK SAUCE.

It was written by some Klezmer musician so he had an excuse not to go to the music store and buy more Guitars. KLEZMER is the greatest form of music since the genesis of all possible Universes, and that’s an OVERSTATEMENT! Klezmer makes you joyful. No wonder the scientists invented it! We’re talking about authentic Yiddish turn-of-the-century (pick any century you want) dance music and hits from the Golden Era of New York’s Second Avenue Yiddish Theatre, played by international all-star pros of the original North American Klez revival movement. Plus, only if you’re brave enough, your genial host Richard Bernard will pilot you through evolving 21st Century klez-fusion, blending Mizrahi, Jazz, Greek, Russian, Punk, Celtic, and Worlds beyond. Hijinks ensue.

It’s a long menu…do you need a few minutes?

“One of the nation's premier Klezmer bands" - University of California, Santa Barbara
“Klezmer music is to Judaism what gospel is to African-American spirituality...the music of unassimilated peoples, hearkening back to the folk traditions of their fathers - the music of cultural resistance...as performed by these Klezmers, the songs express a surprising breadth of feeling” - Daily News
“Perfect” - Jewish Journal
“This Klezmer band is a BLAST! - The Hollywood Reporter
"Your music was the heart of the event...Your artistry cut through the unbearable heat and touched people in wonderful ways." - Jewish Labor Commission

“Richárd, The beauty of your music lingers with me two full weeks after your performance at the University. Your artistry touched me and all of those fortunate enough to be present. The most resounding thanks, however, came from an eager and enamored audience which was reluctant, even after the program, to let you go!” – American Jewish University
“Hey Maestro, crank it up!!” – Conan O'Brien

And, last but not least:
“This kid belongs in the koo-koo parlor…with the OTHER nephews!” – Mr. Sinatra

The unique, mysterious and beautiful charm of KLEZMER has been distilled by traditional Jewish musicians through millennia at the crux...where sound travels from East to West - and echoes back. Sounds skirting the Black Sea’s northern shore from Central Asia. Percolating from the Other Side through Turkey and Bulgaria. Thrust upon them by conquering Cossacks. Mix in a Balkan Brass Band, Sephardic Ladino ballad, Gypsy music, Hebrew prayer, and the folk music of Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Moldavia and Poland. Filter this mix through New York’s Yiddish Theatre...at the exact moment Jazz is born...O! THE HUMANITY!!! And right now...Right Now It's Time To...Kick Out The Jams, Brothers & Sisters!!
